Blog Action Day is a day where bloggers around the world unite to discuss one ever growing, ever important global issue. This year, it's poverty.

Poverty affects millions of people around the globe. It's not just in third world countries such as Africa that impoverished children and adults go without food for days, without shelter or fresh water. It is also an issue in more developed countries such as our own. Poverty should be the reason why billions of us that live life to the fullest shouldn't be able to sleep at night.

But it isn't.

Slowly, with poverty becoming such a normal part of our every day life, we are becoming immune to the crisis that is happening right before our very eyes. We're numb to the issues that we have created because we choose not to wake ourselves up, and fix what we have done. Every day, you and I are able to surf the internet while having a mug of coffee in a lovely warm room. Every day, outside these very walls, people are dying with parched lips, with dry throats and empty stomachs.

The reality of the situation is grim, and yet we choose to ignore it. Why? We choose this path because it seems easier than trying to fix the problem. We've never been a species that can take a knock on the chin when we've done something wrong, and live with it. We believe in forward motion so much that it's tainted our view of our very own society, the very fundamental communities and neighbours that we interact with every single day.

Today is the day when we make a difference. Today you can change the outcome of forever. Today you have a chance to fix the mistakes that we are all responsible for.

It's our time for their time.
